Chancellor Paul B. Beran
Dr. Paul B. Beran was named chancellor of the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith on July 1, 2006, four years after the institution achieved university status after being a two-year school since 1928. Since his appointment, Dr. Beran has worked to facilitate the development of more majors and more opportunity for students resulting in growth of 12.7 percent in student headcount over the last five years. Full-time equivalent enrollment increased 27.5 percent over this same period. More than 1,100 degrees and certificates are now awarded each year.
Beran is an active member of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities, the International Association of University Presidents and the Arkansas Association of Public Universities. He serves as a board member of the Greater Fort Smith Chamber of Commerce, as an inaugural board advisor for Young Emerging Leaders and on a variety of local agency boards including the United Way.
Before coming to UAFS, Beran served as president of Northwestern Oklahoma State University. He received his B.A. in English and political science and his M.A. in English at Stephen F. Austin State University. He completed his Ph.D. in higher education curriculum and instruction at Texas A&M University. He has completed several professional training programs including the Harvard Higher Education Administration Management Development Program.
